The church of Ypapandi

will be open for guests to visit on Wednesday’s between 6 and 7pm. Mary from Planos Holiday’s has kindly offered to show those interested the beautiful interiors of the church, murals were restored in 2004.

Dated back to 1601 Ypapandi church is the only Byzantine style church on the island, built above a Spring that Circe, the Witch Goddess of the lovely hair is reputed to have resided, the area surrounding the church has a stillness about it.

The view from the bell tower is stunning.

You can reach the church by turning left towards Kastanida sunset taverna off the main Magazia road, continue through the hamlet of Manasatika. At the white sign for the sunset taverna bear right and continue along this track to the church.
